Light Academy 2025

26.05.2025

On May 22, 2025, the industry met for the ELEKTRON Light Academy, this year at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne. The program was all about sustainability, AI and efficiency. Over 80 lighting experts listened intently to the speakers, who talked about current trends and future topics in public lighting - and made the audience laugh, think and marvel. The audience was also amazed afterwards in the planetarium, where a trip into the universe rounded off the successful event.

Artificial intelligence, recirculating luminaires and efficient lighting management systems

After coffee and croissants for a cozy arrival at the Swiss Museum of Transport Lucerne, Jörg Imfeld and Peter Schwägli opened the day, not without causing the first laughs in the audience when his avatar took the stage, aka the screen, instead of Peter.

After a promising start, the event got underway with a highly topical subject: Roger Haueter showed how artificial intelligence will change our day-to-day work in the lighting sector - from planning to operation.

Peter Schwägli then presented how ELEKTRON is giving street lights a second life with its circular lighting project. The pilot project, which was presented for the first time at the last Academy, was successfully completed and the first lights were upgraded by VEBO. A first milestone on the way to (more) circular luminaires.

After the break, Beat Heller explained how sustainability can be assessed - and why a systematic approach is becoming increasingly important for municipalities.

Manuela Bolfing took the participants on an exciting, interactive journey through the history of Interact City - from the start to today's possibilities of networked lighting systems. The occasion was the 10th anniversary of the tried-and-tested lighting management system: Interact City was one of the first systems to intelligently network and dim luminaires.

Discover Interact City

At the end of the specialist program, Jörg Imfeld spoke about what can already be achieved in terms of efficiency in street lighting today - and where the potential still lies. He also presented ELEKTRON's new CO₂ calculator, which municipalities and EVs can use to calculate potential savings with just a few clicks.

Streetlights of yesterday, technologies of today, responsibility for tomorrow - this is the circular economy at its best.

The stand-up lunch provided an opportunity for exchange between professionals and in-depth discussions.

For those interested, a special highlight followed in the afternoon: a visit to the planetarium - a short journey into the universe that rounded off the day in an inspiring way.

energylight - less energy for a better light

The Light Academy was once again supported by the SLG's energylight initiative. energylight has set itself the goal of halving electricity consumption for lighting with the right combination of LEDs, sensor technology and daylight, thus putting the Davos 2018 agreement into practice. Together with its partners, the Schweizer Licht Gesellschaft SLG is helping to save 3500 GWh/a, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of more than 1 million households.
