The Grünfeld sports facility in Jona (SG) is one of the largest in the region. The previous floodlights were very dazzling and shone far into the surrounding area. When planning the refurbishment of the sports field lighting, one thing was clear: good lighting on the playing fields, yes, but only without unnecessary spill light. The facility is located in the middle of residential areas and the popular Bächlihof excursion destination and local recreation area on Lake Zurich.

Together with Elektrizitätswerk Jona Rapperswil AG (EWJR), the lighting at the eleven sports fields is being renovated in stages. New floodlights and a flexible control system that can be operated via smartphone are being used to achieve a visible improvement in lighting quality while significantly reducing light pollution.

The before and after drone shots impressively show what is possible with today's lighting technology and professional planning: the spaces are bright, the surroundings remain dark.

Light on the pitch instead of in the vegetable patch

Juckerfarm's Bächlihof adventure farm is located right next to the sports facility. The surrounding fields are dependent on night-time darkness to maintain their natural growth rhythm.

There were therefore three decisive points when planning the lighting for the football pitch adjacent to the Bächlihof:

During the planning and implementation, our focus was on ensuring that neither the residents of the surrounding blocks of flats nor the Bächlihof were unnecessarily disturbed by the light. We were able to achieve this with precise alignment of the spotlights and targeted dimming.

Only as much light as necessary with targeted control

The entire sports facility is controlled via Casambi and can be easily operated using an app. The lighting can be dimmed differently depending on how the sports fields are used. This allows different requirements to be covered flexibly.
