ELEKTRON celebrates 75 years - and continues to drive forward the electrification of the future
Press release
Elektron AG is 75 years old - and is consistently looking to the future. The technology company based in Au/Wädenswil is positioning itself in a market that is changing fundamentally as a result of the energy transition, digitalization and electrification.
We are very proud of our long history, but we are not resting on our laurels - we are focusing on providing sustainable solutions for tomorrow.
Anja Kutter: The focus is on renewable energies, their storage and energy-efficient solutions. The market for battery storage is currently developing particularly dynamically. With the strong expansion of solar energy, the demand for systems that store energy and make it available flexibly over time is increasing. ELEKTRON offers corresponding solutions and supports installers and energy suppliers with planning and implementation.
"Our name says it all. We are electrifying on a broad front and making an important contribution for future generations," says CEO Enrico Baumann.
The company is also setting new trends in street lighting. ELEKTRON is pursuing an approach in which luminaires are recycled and reused after their service life. In the meantime, it has launched the LumaUP, the first recycling luminaire on the market. The customer project"Switzerland's first circular luminaire"in Grenchen made it into the TOP 3 of all Signify partners in the international competition.
"Projects like this show that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand. For us, this is confirmation that we are on the right track with our focus on circular solutions," says Baumann.
Today, ELEKTRON is an internationally active group of companies and, together with its subsidiaries, offers comprehensive services, predictive maintenance and monitoring.
Looking ahead is a tradition at ELEKTRON. Since its foundation in Zurich on April 1, 1951, the company has continued to develop. In the early years, the focus was on household appliances and electrotechnical products, with which ELEKTRON contributed to the electrification of everyday life in Switzerland. At the beginning of the 1970s, the company moved to its current location in Au near Wädenswil.
Over the decades, ELEKTRON has transformed itself from a trading company into a comprehensive service provider with a focus on public lighting, green building and as an industrial supplier. The company has established a market-leading position in street lighting in Switzerland and Austria.
This development has always been shaped by the people in the company. Teamwork, long-term partnerships and respectful treatment of employees are core values that have endured to this day.
Challenges were also part of the story: the decline of the electrical company AEG in the 1980s and 1990s directly affected ELEKTRON as the Swiss representative at the time. However, thanks to entrepreneurial independence, financial stability and the strong cohesion of the employees, a successful reorientation was achieved.
To this day, the ownership structure is unusual: ELEKTRON is wholly owned by a patronage welfare fund. This model enables long-term thinking and underlines the responsibility towards active and former employees.
"ELEKTRON's success has always been a team effort. Our employees, partners and customers have supported the company's development over decades - and they will continue to shape the future together with us," says Baumann.
Under the motto "Electrify - for the sake of the environment", ELEKTRON intends to continue along this path and actively contribute to the energy transition.
