The football pitches and tennis courts in Solothurn were equipped with energy-saving LED floodlights and the flexible Casambi lighting control system as part of the refurbishment. We visited the site together with Claudio Ludäscher (Managing Director of Ludäscher Lichttechnik AG, Installation and Operation) and saw the targeted lighting of the two systems for ourselves. In particular, we immediately noticed that both are located in areas where light pollution can be a problem. The football pitch is located on the edge of a forest in the middle of nature, while the tennis court is surrounded by residential buildings. Claudio Ludäscher told us how these challenges were tackled.
What are the challenges of sports field renovations?
It's not always "easy" to change the cables on sports pitches, as the shafts are often under the pitch or nobody can find them (laughs). This means that the control system cannot be installed quickly. With Casambi, we have found a solution that can still be controlled and dimmed efficiently.
What is convincing about the Casambi control unit?
The installation is incredibly straightforward. You can then very easily dim the entire square or just individual masts or half the square, for example. And not with a time delay, but in real time. The interface is very simple and intuitive to use (points to the app and dims the lights immediately). We have also installed rotary switches so that the lighting can also be switched on and off without the app.
What advantages do the modern OptiVision spotlights have over their predecessors?
Of course, the old reflectors shone out into the Juhe, we needed one more light for less good light and the energy consumption was around twice as high. The players are really happy today because the pitches are very well lit. What's really excellent about these lights is the aperture, which directs the light very precisely onto the pitch.
How was the installation of the spotlights?
The installation of the new headlights went very well, very ring, very easy in a very short time. That's exactly how it should be.
What is your highlight with the new lighting, apart from the energy savings of over 50%?
With the Casambi control system, we have achieved a level of flexibility and energy efficiency that we didn't know before. We can quickly and easily adapt the light to the situation, whether it's training or a tournament.
